What is Carbon Neutral?

Carbon Neutral is when the amount of carbon dioxide a company or a person emits is less than or equal to their reduction of carbon dioxide. A variety of things can help reduce carbon dioxide & in turn, your carbon footprint.

Power Generation is the biggest source of greenhouse gas emission in the United States.

The U.S. is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the world.

Buildings represent 70% of U.S. electricity consumption.

Buildings account for 38% of all CO₂emission in the U.S.
An average of 1.34 pounds of CO₂ is released into the atmosphere for every kilowatt-hour of electricty used.³

Energy efficient lighting is one of the easiest ways to reduce energy consumption & greenhouse gases. Changing a building's lighting to eco-lighting will have the largest impact on the demand for electricity reducing it by as much as 50%.

Many utilities offer financial incentives ranging from $10.00 to $60.00 for each energy efficient fixture installed. Tax incentives may be available to off-set the cost of new energy efficient lighting installations for existing buildings & new construction projects.

In most cases, the cost savings on electricity use will result in a payback for an energy efficient eco-lighting installation of just 2.5years.

The improved economic efficiency can drive bottom line growth as a result of decreased fixed costs.

There are a number of initiatives driving carbon dioxide reduction & carbon neutrality.

The American Institute of Architects has issued a challenge for all public buildings to become carbon neutral by 2030.

In addition, the U.S. Conference of Mayors has developed a climate protection agreement in which more than 700 mayors representing cities across the country have signed in an effort to make cities carbon neutral by 2030.

The U.S. Green Building Council is a non-profit community of leaders working to make green building available to everyone within a generation.
